An American Dream
Dr. Dishant Shah is a first-generation immigrant, proud American citizen, practicing physician, a dedicated community volunteer and now running for public office for the first time ever. Dr. Shah exemplifies the meaning of the words “An American Dream.”
Dr. Dishant Shah immigrated to the US with his family as permanent residents at age 16. His family settled in Connecticut, and like many first-generation immigrant families, they struggled with poverty, yet succeeded due to their core beliefs in hard work and perseverance. While his father searched for work, his mother worked in a laundromat trying to make ends meet, working minimum wage at $5/hour. They lived in a public housing project. Despite all the adversities, Dishant and his family stood firm in the face of challenges and overcame every hurdle with utmost dedication, hard work, and incredible perseverance. Dishant worked his way from high school to becoming a physician, specializing in brain and spine imaging as a Neuroradiologist, with highest honors during his 14 years of training after high-school.
Dishant married his sweetheart Meeta in 2003 while he was in medical school and she was completing her law degree. Dr. Shah is a beloved husband and loving father of two beautiful daughters, Yana and Kavya. Both his daughters attend Henrico County Public Schools. The Shah family never misses a chance for bettering lives around them. Their fifth family member is Laddoo, a yorkie-poo who they all adore as the baby of the family!
Dr. Shah completed his medical degree at the University of Vermont, College of Medicine. In 2006, he moved to Richmond to complete his residency training for Radiology at Virginia Commonwealth University. Dr. Shah remained unstoppable throughout his academic career and further obtained a Fellowship in Neuroradiology at the University of Maryland Medical Center. Henrico fascinated Dishant to the core, and he decided to build a life and raise a family in this very place. Dr. Shah has always had a strong affiliation with community service as he believes in eradicating hurdles from people’s lives. Keeping in view his passion towards community betterment, he served as a Magisterial district chair for Three Chopt district for Henrico County Republican committee in 2018.
